Our Recreational program provides children under 9 through under 17 with the opportunity to have fun as they play and continue to learn the game of soccer. All of these players will be placed on teams which will compete in the Treasure Coast Soccer League against other local FYSA affiliated soccer clubs. In most circumstances, these teams are gender specific.
Our U9/10 age group and U11/12 age group programs have training formats that have an emphasis on enhanced skills development. The focus of practice is on the development of individual fundamental soccer skills. These are passing, dribbling, receiving the ball and moving off the ball. Games are played to provide players with an opportunity to use the skills they have acquired, without placing importance on the results of the game. We need to allow our players to make mistakes so they can learn from them, not get chastised for them. The TCSL league does not allow heading in these age groups. Martin United Soccer Club does not allow coaching or training of heading in U12 age groups and below.
Our U13 thru U17 programs are organized for traditional team play. Practices are geared toward all skill levels, and games are played in the spirit of fun and healthy competition. Sometimes the league plays with small sided games playing 7 v 7 to promote the ability of the players to get more touches of the ball in a game environment. Another situation could be that the league may play 11 v 11 if numbers dictate that need; it is all about how many players/teams register. Heading is allowed in these age groups.
Children & teenagers in our Recreational programs will gain a better understanding of the game of soccer and continue to develop their dribbling, passing, shooting and defending skills. They also create new relationships and become a real part of a community club. All teams are coached by volunteer parent coaches, some of which are licensed USSF soccer coaches giving their time to help the kids.
Recreational Program Format
U9/10 age groups will play 7 v 7 with a goalkeeper on a U10 size field.
U11/12 age groups will play 9 v 9 with a goalkeeper on a U12 size field.
U13/14 age groups will play 8 v 8 on a U12 size field or 11v11 on a full size field with a goalkeeper.
U15 thru U17 will usually play 7 v 7 on a U12 size field or 11v11 on a full size field with a goalkeeper.
2018 Fall Soccer Program
Martin United’s Recreational program provides children 9u thru 18u (birth years 2001-2010) the opportunity to have fun as they play and learn the game of soccer. Children and teenagers in our Recreational program will gain a better understanding of the game of soccer, and develop dribbling, passing, shooting, and defending skills. They will also create new relationships, and become part of a community club. All teams are coached by volunteer parent coaches, some of which are USSF licensed, who donate their time to help the community’s youth.
Fall Recreational Soccer Program
Players will be grouped by year of birth in two-year age increments, gender specific as numbers allow. Players will be placed on teams which will compete in the Treasure Coast Soccer League (TCSL) against other local Florida Youth Soccer Association (FYSA) affiliated soccer clubs. League play begins mid-September and runs through early December, culminating with the World Cup recreational soccer tournament at Halpatiokee Park in early December.
Program Description – 12u and younger
The 9u thru 12u (birth years 2007-2010) age groups training format emphasizes enhanced skills development. The focus of practice is the development of individual fundamental soccer skills, including passing, dribbling, receiving the ball, and moving without the ball. Games provide players with an opportunity to use the skills they have acquired, without placing importance on the results of the game. Players must be allowed to make mistakes, without being chastised, so they can learn from them.
Per US Youth Soccer mandates, all FYSA affiliated clubs are not permitted to allow heading at the 12u age group and younger in recreational soccer. Players born 2006 or later are not permitted to head the ball in training nor games.
Program Description – 13u and older
The 13u thru 18u (birth years 2001-2006) age groups are organized for traditional team play. Practices are geared toward all skill levels, and games are played in the spirit of fun and healthy competition. The league may play 7v7 or 9v9 to promote players to have more touches of the ball in a game environment. The league may play full sided, 11v11. Ultimately, the number of players per side will be determined by the number of players and teams registered. Heading is allowed in these age groups.

2019 Winder Academy Program and Development Pathway League (DPL)
This is our next step of player development from Fall recreational soccer. We are offering a higher level of training from professional trainers from our travel program for our younger age group players from U4 thru U12 to develop their basic foundation of skills / technique. This training is based on a player’s level of ability as well as the player’s age group (that means genders and players can be mixed for training and games if ages allow). All players who sign up will need to participate in our “Small Sided Game” Academy program. This will enable our trainers and volunteer coaches to benchmark player’s ability and record development week by week. All of the data will be saved on an “APP” and we will be able to share the development of your player and clearly identify which players are ready to be selected to participate in TCSL DPL jamborees. ALL registered PLAYERS need to participate in all of these sessions to ensure development with the Academy curriculum. We will need volunteer coaches to help run the Small Sided Games program and support / learn from the coaches who will be taking the training sessions and DPL game day responsibilities. Registration does include a new “Academy” shirt but we will keep our existing shorts and socks from the FALL season. New players to our program will need to pay an additional $30 for an entire uniform and this will be collected during registration.
Parents whose players are selected to play in DPL games will have to pay referee fees and league fees additional to the registration fee as and when they apply for each player they submit. We will start training the week commencing 1/8/2018. The schedule of games is expected to be published by January 3rd 2018.
The DPL season for 2000s thru 2009s will commence on Sat January 13th. Games for the younger age groups 2010s thru 2013s will be held “in house” and some will be at TCSL DPL jamborees. All U6 players will play 3v3 games “in house” as well as the 1v1 small sided games.
Each week, players who are not picked to participate on a DPL team will attend a Friday evening “Player Development Clinic” where the needs of each player will receive 1 on 1 training in SSG format.
Players will be required to have proper soccer attire and equipment which consists of the following: athletic shorts for training – no jean shorts or those with buttons / zippers; T-shirt for practice, no shirts with zippers / buttons; shin guards, soccer socks, cleats – baseball or football cleats are not permitted. A club T-shirt will be given out during the first week of the season, it is VERY important that you place the correct size on the application.
Many players who participate in the Martin United Academy programs are more prepared to make a successful transition to competitive soccer.
Training will be taken by USSF licensed coaches (volunteer parents from the FALL recreational program are allowed to participate as “view only”). DPL training is twice a week and all players will train with players equivalent of their own level. Places for teams that will participate in the TCSL Winter DPL “Development Pathway League” will initially be selected by attending a mandatory evaluation on Friday January 5th at Justin Wilson Park, Field 5.
5.45pm thru 6.30pm : Players with the year of birth 2009 through to 2010.
6.30pm thru 7.15pm : Players with the year of birth 2008 through to 2007.
7.25pm thru 8.00pm : Players with the year of birth 2001 through to 2006.
Player fees for the 2018 Winter Academy to receive USSF Nationally licensed trainers are $195 per player. This is an 8 week (training twice a week) clinic with a player focused curriculum to build skills, soccer IQ, confidence and motor skills control.
2019 Spring Academy Program
This is the final step of our annual recreational player development program. This Spring program follows our Fall League and Winter Academy recreational soccer programs to help develop players further for either the next recreational season (2018-19) or the “competitive players tryouts” we will be hosting in May for our competitive team program for the (2018-19) season. Our higher level of training will be taken by USSF certified trainers for all our players from U4 thru U12 to continue the development of their basic soccer fundamentals (skills & technique). The player placement for training will be based upon a player’s current level of ability as well as the player’s age group (that means genders and players can / may be mixed for training and small sided games if ages allow). No new uniform will be provided for the Spring Academy to existing Winter Academy or our Fall rec season.
Each registered player will have one technical training session per week on a Wednesday evening. Training sessions will be grouped per age/gender as per Winter Academy structure.
It will be possible to still play in both the YMCA Spring soccer league and still participate in the Martin United spring academy as we have had many parents asking to participate in both programs.
Our Spring program will run (six weeks) on Wednesday evenings from April 11th 2018 thru May 16th 2018. Training for 2013 thru 2012 year of birth will be (5:30pm-6:15pm). Training for year of birth 2011 thru 2009 will be from (6:15pm-7:15pm). Training for the 2008 thru 2006 year of birth players is (7:15pm-8:30pm).
Registration fees are only $80 (uniform & soccer ball not included).
