The Martin United Soccer Club Competitive Program (travel soccer) helps get player’s to their highest level of development. The highest level being all about how much effort and desire the players have to set and achieve their personal goals and how to get to that goal. Successful players usually have the following attributes : to be coachable, to have a positive attitude, to be supportive of their team mates, have a growth mindset, to be able to process developmental messages as something they need to obtain to be successful, to be motivated to want to get better at every practice
Players at Martin United practice 2, 3 or 4 times a week (depending on age and level of the team) with fully USSF licensed coaches. In addition, we play in league games and tournaments throughout South Florida during the soccer season from the beginning of August through until the end of May. In local and state tournaments that may include only FYSA / USYS sanctioned tournament events like the Treasure Coast Pre Season Shootout, Wellington Cup, Weston Cup, Palm Beach Classic, Sarasota Cup and the Disney Soccer & IMG Showcase events. Out of state events are dependent on team specific levels of play and are chosen by the head coach of that team or teams are invited like at CASL in North Carolina; Jefferson Cup in Virginia or USYS National League events.
We strongly believe that the development of players always needs to be at the appropriate level in an environment which promotes a challenging education structure, team work, and respect, while being in a fun community focused safe learning environment. The modern day terminology for this would be referenced as “bio banding”.
Martin Uniteds take the responsibility of mentoring and training the children very seriously and we require the highest of standards for anyone we allow to participate. To ensure this, all Coaches, Trainers, and Board members are required to be fully background checked, have their certificate from www.safesport.org, and have their “Heads Up” certificate from the CDC to recognize concussions.
The Martin United competitive players are appraised twice a year at age appropriate benchmarks by the Player Development Director to ensure that they are developing the technical skills of ball mastery necessary to play at the level their team is competing at. These results are shared with both player and parent in individual conferences with the intent of coming up with goals specific for each player for the remainder of the season. This follows Martin United’s philosophy of having a program focused on the individual player. The players also receive at least two or three coaching points at every training session that relate to the training topic whether they are delivered 1 on 1, in the moment, or as a group “show” to educate all of the players together.
Martin United prefers to play players on age as long as the age level is developmentally appropriate for that player. There will be specific circumstances where players may play up in age group and that decision is made by the Technical Director and club president, Richard Creber; upon recommendation by the Player Development Directors: Stuart Duffin for U9 thru U12 and Patrick Johnson U13 thru U19.
