2018-2019 Competitive Team

Martin United will be hosting three tryout dates for each age and gender group. Existing participants on a Martin United team need to attend all three sessions. New players are requested to attend at least two sessions (preferably three).
Vision
To provide a community focused, family friendly soccer program that delivers technical, tactical and positional awareness for recreational players and competitive players.
Philosophy
To create an environment where mistakes are viewed as a learning opportunity for everyone by using guided discovery educational techniques. We see the game of soccer as a fun, problem solving game which challenges participants mental, physical, psychosocial, cognitive ability, technical skill and tactical awareness. Mastery of all is our goal. Participants are defined as players, officials, coaches and spectators / parents.
Competitive Mission Statement
Martin United will use on line learning experiences in addition to traditional coaching educators to deliver the club’s philosophy of creating developmentally appropriate training so players learn to develop while making the learning experience challenging and fun. Our prepared coaches will use guided discovery educational techniques to instill a team culture that achieves a “mastery” for respect, discipline, teamwork, dedication and commitment.
Core Values
Have fun; be prepared; win your 1 v 1; if you lose possession try to win it back; learn from mistakes; problem solve; speed of play; strength from team; simple decision making; positive attitude.
Richard Creber, Club President
“Ideally, I’d like families that buy in to our club philosophy and agree to uphold it. I’d rather be a smaller club with like minded families to develop our youth athletes in a positive way, rather than being focused on the number of participants and wins like other clubs in the area.”
Location
All the try outs will be held at Justin Wilson Memorial Park, 2050 SW Mapp Rd, Palm City, FL. There are two separate fields there, referred to as JW4 and JW5. Be sure to check the schedule for the location and time.
Existing MUSC Team Specific Tryouts
Teams that are already from the prior season are giving additional players the opportunity to train with the team and so both parties may evaluate each other. A player demonstrating the skill level that the coach is looking for may be invited to join the team.
On Friday May 18th, the club is hosting a “show the team” event for all existing club competitive teams Boys & Girls (Boys 2009, 2008, 2007, 2006, 2005, and 2004) (Girls 2007, 2006, 2005, 2004.) – (excludes 2003, 2002, 2001, 2000 boys teams and 2005, 2004 girls team). New players from other clubs who specifically wish to try out for a specific team can register on line to do so. Existing team members need to attend, but do not need to register. More specific details will be shared next week on times and locations for each age group. The 2003, 2002, 2001 and 2000 boys teams and the 2005, 2004 girls team are traveling away competing in a tournament and will only host tryouts after May 28th.
All new players must REGISTER below for May 18th.
General MUSC Age Group Tryouts
General tryouts are open to all players in all age groups. Players will be evaluated and placed on teams already formed or those being formed at the appropriate level and age group. A player demonstrating the skill level that the coach is looking for may be invited to join the team.
On May 29th & May 31st the club is hosting its age / gender specific tryouts based on the year of birth for our BOYS program for all years. All players must wear plain white shirts and dark shorts (navy or black). Players who previously played up a year in age will be required to start the tryout “on age”. Players will be grouped and evaluated by their year of birth and not by team. Players may get moved up to an older age group during the tryout.
On May 30th & June 1st the club is hosting its age / gender specific tryouts based on the year of birth for our GIRLS program for all years. All players must wear plain white shirts and dark shorts (navy or black). Players who previously played up a year in age will be required to start the tryout “on age”. Players will be grouped and evaluated by their year of birth and not by team. Players may get moved up to an older age group during the tryout.
As per last year Martin United is offering an “early bird” discounted registration opportunity. The club has a reduced fee to sign up with a Martin United team before June 10th if a place on the roster has been offered to a player. After June 10th, the team fees will carry no discount. Fees will be published on May 29th. We are trying to either maintain or reduce our fees for next season for team fees.
Martin United will announce coaches for teams in early June following the tryouts. The club is in a great position to continue offering stability and growth with our dedicated coaching staff. Our coaching staff includes: Stuart Duffin; Matt Powers; John Mullen; Mark Hamilton; Hugo Caicedo; Oliver Meruvia; Matt Walby; Richard Creber; Saverio Fanelli; Raul Meija and Brent Kauffman. The club is looking to add new coaches to our pool for the 2018/19 season as we do expect program growth. Each coach will have at least one team and no more than two teams. Some teams may get a new coach as they move from age group to another age group, or from one field size to another field size, as we have coaches that specialize in 7v7, 9v9 and 11v11.
THANK YOU for the continued support you give our players, coaches and club. We are looking forward to the next season already – we’ll see you on the fields!
